The year is flying by and yesterday delivered the second metro radio survey of the year nationally with many of the expected trends continuing across metro markets across the country. Macquarie Radio’s 2GB retained its dominant number 1 overall position in Sydney for the 119th consecutive survey. They lead with a convincing 14.5% share which is an increase of 1.1 over survey 1. Smooth FM take second place overall but is number 1 FM holding this position from last survey and from Survey 8 last year.

Alan Jones delivered the number one breakfast show as well as an increase in share with a massive 16.4 share an increase of 1.2 share points on survey 1. The elections no doubt have listeners tuning in to hear about policymakers on the talkback giant. Kyle and Jackie O took out breakfast on the FM dial with a jump of 1.3 share points to 11.4. They were followed by Smooth FM at an 8.0 share and WSFM with 7.9.  Drive was a tight race with Smooth just bumping 2GB at 10.3 and 10.2 respectively. Overall KIIS saw an increase in cumulative audience with an additional 34,000 listeners tuning in taking them to a total of 1,048,000 this survey however the biggest gain in cume was 2GB with an additional 66,000 listeners.

Melbourne saw an increase powerhouse 3AW by 0.8 share points to 15.2 and retaining its number one position overall however Smooth 91.5 continues with second position and number 1 FM at 11.0 share points. Third place overall goes to ARN’s Gold FM with 10.1 share points. 3AW’s Ross and John continue their winning streak with another breakfast at number 1 with a 19.5 share. Their closest breakfast rival was Smooth FM with a 9.5. The 3AW also took out Drive at 12.7 followed by Fox FM at a 10.6 share.

Brisbane was a close race however Nova retained its top spot despite dropping 0.5 share points ending with a 12.4 share. In Second place at 11.9 was Triple M closely followed by Hit 105 at 11.8. Nova took out breakfast with a 12.4 share followed Hit 105 at 12.0. Drive was also led convincingly by Nova’s Kate, Tim and Marty with 16.4 share points.

On Australia’s west coast in Perth, Mix 94.5 retains the top spot with 15.4 share points followed by Nova 93.7 at 12.1 share points. Breakfast was also dominated by Mix and Nova in number 1 and two positions respectively. Nova has the most listeners in Perth with 548,000 overall listening.

Mix 102.3 retained the lead position in Adelaide with a 13.9 share, an increase of 0.6 share points from survey 1. Second place was awarded to Nova 91.9 at 10.3 very closely followed by Hit 107 with 10.0 share points. Mix has the highest cumulative audience in Adelaide with 344,000 listeners.

With a federal election looming there is no doubt going to be huge interest from Australian audiences listening in to radio to find out the latest information, news and updates on what is happening live as well as getting their entertainment fix.
