The second metro radio survey of the year has now been released and we’re starting to look out for some trends for the year.
In Brisbane, 97.3FM took out the number 1 position for the second consecutive survey in 2016, followed by Nova with a share of 11.7 and Hit 105.3 at 11.4. ABC dominated breakfast with a share of 14.6 but of the commercial stations, 97.3 was number 1 with a share of 13.5 points. Hit 105.3’s Hamish and Andy led the Drive slot, narrowly beating Kate, Tim and Marty on Nova.
The Sydney market was relatively flat. 2GB was again the dominant force with a share of 12.1 points overall. But the question everyone is wondering is who was the number 1 FM station overall? Well, it was KIIS 1065 again with a share of 9.4. Smooth FM saw the greatest drop of all the commercial stations of 1.7 points down to 6.9 but is still sitting at 3rd FM position after WSFM at 8.1. Looking at the sessions, in Breakfast Alan Jones won the session even after dropping 0.7 points to 15.3. His nearest competitor was ABC at 11.4 followed by KIIS 1065 at 11.3 after dropping 1.2 from the last survey. WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda had a great book with a gain of 0.9 to 8.0 and secured the number 2 breakfast position. 2Day FM would be concerned that there has been no movement on their dial in Breakfast, as Rove and Sam have stayed static at a 3 share.
In the Perth Market, disaster almost struck for Mix 94.5 after a drop in share of 1.2 points to 13.8 this survey however they still led the marketplace by .1 of a share point as the nearest competitor Nova 93.7 was at a 13.7 share. The rest of the market held fairly steady.
ABC won the survey in Adelaide with a share of 12.3, however the runners up were a tie of commercial stations – Triple M and Nova 91.9 sat at 11.5 very closely followed by Mix 102.3 at 11.4. ABC led the breakfast slot with a 17.3 share, followed by Mix 102.3 with a share of 12.3. The divide in drive was marginal, delivering a share of 13.7 on Nova and 13.6 on Hit 107.
Finally in Melbourne, powerhouse 3AW had a huge result with a growth of 2.3 share points this survey to take them to a 15.2 share. The rest of the market was fairly steady, with the number 1 FM for the second survey in a row this year being Gold FM with a share of 9.0 points. 3AW saw quite strong gains across every session across the day for example, breakfast grew by 2.7 points to a 20.5 share. This may be attributed to the 88,000 extra people listening to the station this survey as cumulative listing went up to 676,000. While 3AW was number 1 across every session on the AM dial, Triple M was number 1 in breakfast and Fox FM’s Hamish and Andy took out Drive.
