Radio Survey 5, 2017 is exciting with the changing of the guard in number one position on the FM dial in Sydney!

As we head over the hump of the radio metro radio surveys for the year, radio survey 5 for the metro regions has delivered an upset in the Sydney market with WSFM pipping Smooth FM for number one position on the FM dial now sitting at a 9.3 share after increasing 0.7 share points on the last survey. This was attributed to Smooth’s unfortunate loss of 1.1 on the last survey. However, this hasn’t broken 2GB’s overall lead in the Sydney market with 12.6 share points, once again dominating for the 106th consecutive survey at pole position. Looking at the sessions, Alan Jones held strong in breakfast increasing share point as did Ben Fordham in Drive. However, Nova held its strong lead in Sydney’s Drive session with an 11.2 share well ahead of its nearest rival KIIS at 10.1. KIIS was strong across its breakfast share. Looking at cumulative audiences, Nova 96.9 still has the largest number of people listening, with a total audience of 995,000 listening in Sydney. WSFM had very high time spent listening across all dayparts which would have been attributed to its leading the FM dial.

Moving to Melbourne, 3AW once again took the lead with a share of 14.8 overall followed by its closest commercial rival Smooth 91.5 at 9.5. Breakfast heavyweights Ross and John once again cleaned up the breakfast session with a 20.8 share with the next closest commercial stations all following in quick succession as follows: Fox FM 7.9 share, Nova 100 7.8 share and Gold 104.3 7.6 share. Drive was interesting as once again 3AW led the pack however it was a very close race with Fox’s Hamish and Andy losing 2.3 share points but still winning the FM dial at 10.3 narrowly followed by Nova 100. Fox FM has the largest cume of all stations totalling 1,149,000 listeners.

In Adelaide, there was quite a bit of share movement, however, Mix 102.3 held its dominant at a 13.1 share position followed by Triple M who grew 1.2 share points this survey to 12.1 and took out second place. This growth for Triple M may have been partially attributed to its huge share increase in breakfast as it took out the number 1 position in this daypart across all the commercial stations increasing its share by a substantial 2.1 points to 13.5. In fact, Triple M also saw quite a large jump in mornings of 3.6 share points as well. Nova would be pleased with its massive gains in Drive to take out the session with a 16.1 share this survey taking out the session with a clear lead over nearest competitor Mix 102.3 with a 13.8 share.

Quite a bit of share movement mostly downwards in Brisbane this survey but Nova still holds its position as number one station at 13 share points even after dropping 1.1 points overall followed by 97.3 FM who dropped 0.6 to 11.9. Triple M held fairly steady only dropping 0.1 points to 9.9. Reviewing the sessions 97.3 won the breakfast slot and Nova smashed the Drive session with an 18.2 share, its nearest competitor sits at 11.3 being 97.3. Nova has the most listeners garnering 566,000

Nova is the number 1 metro network for cume with 3,488,000 listeners
